Hyper-Personalization: The Future of Live Ops

Live Operations (Live Ops) is the heartbeat of your game. It's the new content, the events, and the offers that keep players coming back. But generic, one-size-fits-all seasonal sales are dead. The future is Hyper-Personalisation.
Even before AI, games can trigger "Dynamic Bundles" tailored to a specific user's exact situation. If a player fails level 145 in Candy Crush five times in a row, the game instantly triggers a "Rescue Bundle" containing the exact boosters they need to win. It's the right offer, at the exact right time.
This can be observed in games with equipment and upgrading mechanics as well, like RPGs and CCGs. When a player is perceived to be unable to overcome certain challenges, dynamic bundles offering to upgrade their characters or equipment appears. These can consist of upgrade materials, additional stamina/energy, recovery items, and more.
What you usually don’t see, are new characters - unless it’s a requirement for content unlock. This is especially true for games with character Gacha mechanics. You wouldn’t want to cannibalise your biggest source of income, would you?
Games are also using ultra-short FOMO cycles. Monopoly Go! runs 24-hour mini-tournaments with milestone rewards to keep engagement at a fever pitch. Brave Frontier and other RPGs run daily dungeons, with different loot varieties almost every day to keep players coming back for items they need.
Have you thought about incorporating more dynamic services in your product? One key thing to remember is that: the point is not to give players what they want, but give them what they need. After all, you wouldn’t want to break the game’s balance and playability by straight up selling them end-game content.
Why? Maybe that’s an article for another time.
